We use our feet a lot and therefore should treat them carefully. Neglect and lack of attention lead to different consequences and fungal infections are not excluded. Fungus grows on the skin of the foot and therefore causes the infection. The affected area then becomes red or black with flaky skin that resembles dandruff in some way. And moreover, fungal infections tend to grow rapidly. It is dermophytes, a certain type of fungi that causes the infection on the feet.

Fungal foot infections are quite frequent: it happens in 10-20% people. They are not considered dangerous but should be treated immediately still. Fungi grow and multiply in wet and dark places and therefore avoid wearing shoes that make you sweat. In general, be careful with your feet; do not allow them to sweat excessively as any small scratch or an opening will give easy way to an infection and fungi will grow immensely fast. If your skin on the feet gets flaky, excessively dry or patchy it is a good reason to get consult a doctor. The healthcare provider will help to state a diagnosis and prescribe a necessary treatment. But the best thing is prevention therefore follow these recommendations:

Feet should be always kept clean and therefore wash them regularly especially if you have been out. Apply enough soap and scrubs in order to remove all the dirt and dead skin as well. If you have to wear shoes the entire time try to find opportunity to remove them every three hours in order to give feet some air and get rid them of all the excessive moisture. It is also important to keep feet dry therefore wipe them dry and make sure they are well-hydrated. And, finally, abstain from going anywhere barefoot if it is not out in the nature. Swimming pools, changing rooms, offices, etc. are the best places to get infection.

Be very careful with your feet and keep them clean and nice every day. Then you will make sure no fungal infection will be able to affect them!

With the weakening of the immune system the body becomes more susceptible for different infections, fungal infections as well. As we know, fungi represent micro-organisms that are impossible to see with the naked eye. There are around thousands of fungi types and not all of them represent danger to a human organism. The mouth, nail, skin and the vagina are the most frequent places that fungus likes to attack, but generally, it can be any place. It is very important not to leave the condition neglected as untreated fungal infection is fraught with certain complications.

A yeast infection that takes place in the mouth, in other words, thrush happens when the immune system becomes weak. It is caused by the fungi Candida and it affects the mouth, throat and the tongue. Newborns, babies and elderly people are mostly affected by this fungal infection. Still, this condition is not a dangerous one and can be cured easily.

For this case there exist a great many of medications. They are intended either to treat the condition by applying the drug directly or by consuming it orally. The severity of infection and its recurrence define the type of the medication used and also the period. Mild thrushes can be easily treated at home. The most frequent medicines are antifungal lozenges and mouth rinses.

Toenail fungus infection is very frequent among people. Fungus or bacteria tends to develop in the dark areas of toenails and thrives on them. Do not take any medications without a consultation with your doctor. The most common medications for toenail treatment are fluconazole and terbinafine. They usually take time (6 to 12 weeks) to cure the condition.

Yeast infections are treated by the variety of tablets, ointments and creams meant for these purposes (i.e. clotrimazole, miconazole, tioconazole, terconazole and butoconazole). The most import thing about them is to undergo the whole therapy course in order for the medication to take any effect.

Keep in mind, however, that any medications have side effects and it is better to know about them in advance.

Fluconazole is used in the case of Candida. This drug can evoke allergy as an adverse effect and cause itching, swelling, swallowing or breathing problems, diarrhea and abdominal pain.

Ketoconazole is nowadays used not that frequently because it proved not that effective.

Liver damage was reported after a prolonged use of antifungal drugs. Therefore if you are on such a therapy it is recommended that you check your liver frequently.

There haven’t been reported any side-effects after the usage of antifungal creams and shampoos, but cases of itching and irritation are known.

Remember, that fungal infections are not dangerous, but they require time to be healed. There are many reasons evoking fungal infections but the most frequent is improper hygiene. Therefore it is better to be careful and attentive and take some preventive measures in order not to need treatment afterwards.

A person can suffer from many different illnesses evoked by fungi. They invade the body and make it ill. Good news is that the condition is curable and there are a lot of quite effective antibiotics able to fight microbes off in case the immune system cannot do it on its own. Another good way to get rid of fungi is to stick to antifungal diet in addition to taking antibiotics. Mycosis and yeast infection are two sure conditions where diet can undoubtedly help.

Microbes caused by fungal infection usually feed on the things that a body has and they also prone to produce a lot of toxic substances. Therefore such infection leads to the death of some cells and tissues in the body. Fungal infection is characterized by fever, motions or acid reflux. Other symptoms are cough and cold when the respiratory system is affected. Therefore why antifungal diet is so important? There are two reasons: with the change of the diet the intake of nutrients used by the fungi are restricted; products with antifungal properties are included in the diet.

These are direct sugars that allow fungi to thrive and invade the body successfully. These sugars also provides the organism with energy after metabolism. They are maltose, mannitol, fructose, glucose and lactose.

Therefore it is recommended to avoid these sugars in order to get rid of the fungal infection. And, consequently, one should exclude pastries, honey, cookies and any syrup containing products as well as candies, gum, chocolates, apples and bananas. It is also advised to refrain from any packaged foods and carefully check their ingredients. It is also recommended that fermented food products and alcohol should be avoided.

A diabetic diet or some successful diet plan such as the 1200 or 2800 calorie diet menu is a good thing to try if you want to help your immune system to get rid of an infection. Those who suffer from acute fungal infections diabetic diets are also highly recommended. The following products are very useful in the case: fresh green vegetables, beans, grains, nuts, broccoli and asparagus. If you follow your diet plan be assured that your fungal infection will go away quicker, and moreover, with a healthier diet your whole organism will feel better and benefit.

All of us have heard about fungi but not all know what it is. Fungi represent microscopic plant organisms consisting of cells like mould, mildews and yeast. Their behaviour in the organism resembles the one of parasites or saprophytes as they feed on nutrients they get from humans and animals.

Though fungi are often called moulds or yeasts they are actually infections. Fungi can be found everywhere: they are called geophilic if they live in the environment, zoophilic if they live on animals, and anthropophlic – in the case of humans.

Under the term moulds we understand something with singular hyphae and able to produce cotton-looking colonies. Yeasts (Candida species is a good example), in their turn, have only one cell and bud therefore developing and creating soft pasty-looking colonies.

There are also dermatophites. It is known that they cause about 90% of all skin infections as well as hte ones of nails and hair.

Dermatophytes are generally divides into three groups: Trichophyton, Microsporum, and Epidermophyton. The first one influences skin, hair and nails; the second evokes ringworm epidemics in children; the third is responsible for the appearance of tinea and develops on the outer skin layer.

Animal fungi are also able to infect humans. They are considered alien by the immune system, therefore it fights them and inflammation and redness are much more intensive.

Skin infections are also evoked by Candida yeasts. Malassezia furfur, or Pityrisporum ovalae, is very frequent as well. This kind of fungi produces brownish patches on the skin. It nourishes and thrives on skin with high sebum substance such (i.e. the face, scalp and chest). It also causes dandruff and a rash.

In general, there are many types of skin infections caused by fungi. They are Athlete’s foot, jock itch, ringworm, face fungus, tinea versicolor, and also some fungal nail and hair infections.

Athlete’s foot is caused by the fungus called Trichophyton. It activates in the state when feet are wet and warm and irritated. Though fungal infections are more frequent on feet they can appear also on other parts of the body.

Another name for Athlete’s foot is tinea pedis. The fungus lives in many places like gym floors, swimming pools, and so on; it is also found in socks and clothes. It is contagious and is spread by contact.

Majority of people experienced fungus at least once in their lives. Though, for the fungus to activate it requires proper conditions like moisture and warmth.

Athlete’s foot is recognized by itching and burning. The fungus influences the skin and makes it peel or even evoke cracking pain and even bleeding. In other cases infection does not show at all.

The condition is usually found on both soles of the feet but in some cases it can spread to sides and top of the feet. The spaces between toes can also become infected.

Athlete’s foot can affect both feet and sometimes hands. Infection that influences hands has a name of tinea manuum and the reason of its action has not been completely studied yet.

The treatment of the condition includes two stages. First of all is presupposes proper hygiene in the part of body that has infection. This means keeping your feet dry and clean and in comfortable footwear. Secondly, some medications like antifungal creams and washes should be applied (i.e. miconazole, clotrimazole, terbinafine, and ketoconazole).

Sometimes defective nails are considered fungal because of the way they look. People feel awkward about it and are eager to treat their nails for something that is not the case. However, nasty looking nails can be a result not only of bad hygiene and fungus but also some other factors like the following:

If you have lines and ridges on your nails do not fret as this is a normal state and majority people have them.

The condition of onycholysis can change the colour of nails to white or yellow. Under onycholysis we understand the separation of the nail from the nail bed; the color change is evoked by the air that gets in the gap. The best way to eliminate the condition is to trim the nail short, polish and give it time to heal about 2-3 months.

Red or black nails occur in the result of hematoma when blood appears under the nail. Typical example is trauma like when you jam your finger with a door or hit it with a hummer. The color will get back to normal after the nail grows.

Green nails may be a result of pseudomonas bacteria influence. These bacteria live under nails and make them separate from the nail bed a little therefore changing the nail colour to green. But again, there is no need to worry: this condition will heal by itself. Just trim the nail short, polish and give it 2-3 months.

The condition of psoriasis or some skin problem can also influence the skin around nails and nail matrix making it look unhealthy.

There is one more condition that is called paronychia which affects the skin around the nail making it swollen and red. These are the effects of yeast infection on cuticle. In this case there may be a necessity in some medications like anti-yeast cream (i.e. clotrimazole, miconazole, and terbinafine). They are available without a prescription and will take about 2 months of regular application to help.
