Heartburn and Recommendations on Foods

Our life is not the same as it was even some years ago – the tempo has increased a lot and we seem always to be in a hurry. Sometimes we do not have enough time to communicate normally and we move a lot around and eat when there is time and mostly something that is quick to prepare and not healthy at all. There is no surprise that our body react to this challenge. In the condition of unbalanced diet and fast food heartburn is not a rare thing.

Let’s have a look at the list of foods that can trigger the condition.

  • First of all theses are acidic foods like tomatoes. They are able to cause heartburn as well as fruits that are high on citrus (i.e. grapefruit, lemons, and oranges). Do not eat too much of mustard and vinegar as they can evoke the condition, too.
  • Another sure way to have heartburn is to consume too much of fatty or fried foods, or dairy products. Everything what is cottage cheese, butter biscuits, French fries, fried meat, vegetables, etc. should be abstained.
  • Aerated drinks and coffee are big triggers of the condition as well as caffeine-containing drinks and products. Therefore if you are liable to have heartburn avoid such stuff (and nice chocolate brownies, too).
  • Do not drink alcohol or at least lessen its amount in your daily allowance if you want to relieve your condition or prevent it.
  • The same goes with spices. If you have heartburn and like spicy foods then, unfortunately, you will have to abandon it for your own good.
  • In some cases meats and grains can lead to heartburn; therefore if you cannot live without meat try lean one and avoid excessive fat in it.
  • Heartburn can also be helped with a chewing gym because it assists in the production of saliva that relieves it.

But apart from the changes in diet other alternations should be made. They concern the lifestyle habits. It is recommended to eat small portions of foods instead of big ones; eating process should be slow and not hasty. A little exercise will also be very beneficial. One more useful reminder is not to eat late at night and directly before going to bed; avoid tight night clothes.
